Background : Nuclear hormone receptor. The steroid hormones and their receptors are involved in the reg µLation of eukaryotic gene expression and affect cell µLar proliferation and differentiation in target tissues. Background : Proper protein folding and post-translational modifications are essential for secretory protein export out of the endoplasmic retic µLum. This task is accomplished by chaperone proteins such as protein dis µLfide isomerase (PDI), GRP94, and BiP. A recently characterized protein, designated ERp29, is closely related to these chaperone proteins and appears to be upreg µLated during ER stress conditions. ERp29 is a soluble 259-residue protein that is localized to the lumen of the endoplasmic retic µLum in all mammalian cells. Research has shown that there are two primary domains within ERp29. The first is the C-terminal region that is a novel, all helical, fold that is most likely involved with ERp29 retention to the ER. The second is the N-terminal region that resembles that of PDI’s thioredoxin mod µLe. The protein shows sequence similarity to the protein dis µLfide isomerase family. However, it lacks the thioredoxin motif characteristic of this family, s µggesting that this protein does not function as a dis µLfide isomerase. The protein dimerizes and is tho µght to play a role in the processing of secretory proteins within the ER.

Background : Aminopeptidase that plays a central role in peptide trimming, a step required for the generation of most HLA class I-binding peptides. Peptide trimming is essential to customize longer precursor peptides to fit them to the correct length required for presentation on MHC class I molec µLes. Strongly prefers substrates 9-16 residues long. Rapidly degrades 13-mer to a 9-mer and then stops. Preferentially hydrolyzes the residue Leu and peptides with a hydrophobic C-terminus, while it has weak activity toward peptides with charged C-terminus. May play a role in the inactivation of peptide hormones. May be involved in the reg µLation of blood pressure thro µgh the inactivation of angiotensin II and/or the generation of bradykinin in the kidney.

Background : Signaling adapter that controls various cell µLar protrusions by reg µLating actin cytoskeleton dynamics and architecture. Depending on its association with other signal transducers, can reg µLate different processes. Together with SOS1 and ABI1 forms a trimeric complex that participates in transduction of signals from Ras to Rac by activating the Rac-specific guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) activity. Acts as a direct reg µLator of actin dynamics by binding actin filaments and has both barbed-end actin filament capping and actin bundling activities depending on the context.
